You can have a great airsoft gun, but if your airsoft BBs aren’t right, it can really throw your game.As an airsoft player or trainer, you should understand the types of airsoft BBs, and which are the types of airsoft BBs you need for your game. Realism, accuracy, and keeping your airsoft gun in great working condition should be important to any airsoft gun collector, trainer or gamer. So when you start thinking about airsoft BBs, you will want to consider all the different types, weights, and specific uses of the airsoft BBs you are going to be using. So as you think about this, consider these three things: the BB diameter, type, and weight. So let us take a look at how these three things affect the operation of your airsoft guns, games and simulations.
Looking at Diameter
Without any question, the standard diameter for airsoft BBs is 6mm, and this should work for any airsoft gun. that doesn’t that 6mm airsoft BBs are the only diameter sold, there are airsoft BBs on the market that have an 8mm diameter, and will work with some airsoft guns as well. The only downside with shooting the 8mm airsoft BBs is that due to the larger diameter, the more surface area the BB has, and it will actually affect the aim you can have with your airsoft gun. In general, a safe rule of thumb is to stick with a seamless, standard 6mm airsoft BB, and don’t upgrade unless you’re sure that your airsoft gun can handle the larger airsoft BB.
Types of Airsoft BBs
There are several different types of airsoft BBs. The most widely used type of airsoft BB is the seamless airsoft BB. This BB is made of a hard plastic, is completely spherical, and has no seams whatsoever. But don’t assume that just because they’re round and seamless that you’ll have no problem with aim, you’ll still have to work at it.
Another popular type of airsoft BB is the paintball. Thats right, paintballs aren’t just for paintball guns anymore, you can use paintball airsoft BBs for anything you use seamless airsoft BBs for. Paintball airsoft BBs usually come in the same standard 6mm size, can fire in any of the airsoft guns that will take a 6mm BB, and will do no harm to the airsoft gun.
How Heavy is your Airsoft BB?
This may be the most important consideration when you are looking at airsoft BBs. The weight of the BB is using measured in grams (g), and can be anywhere from the standard .12g, up to .25g and greater. One thing you should try to keep in mind when you are looking at airsoft BB weight is this: The heavier the airsoft BB, the truer it will fly through the air (thus being more accurate), but the range of the gun will decrease, as the heavier BB will drop sooner than lighter weight BBs.
On most of the more expensive and higher quality airsoft guns, you will want to go with at least a .2g airsoft BB. Sometimes, using a lighter weight BB in some of these higher end airsoft guns could void the warranty.Airsoft BB’s can really improve or hurt your airsoft game, accuracy training, or simulations. It’s important to check the specs on your airsoft guns to decipher what kinds of airsoft BBs are best for your gun, as well as what kinds of BBs you shouldn’t use to keep from harming your gun.
