Exploring the SIPS material for numerous building applications

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 3:42 pm

SIPs are likewise made in large sizes up to 8 ft by 24 ft so assembly on-site is quicker, framing work parties are more successful, and the project is “dried-in” sooner. That means other subcontractors can get a head start on their engineering design process jobs they need to do. Sips are customizable animals that reflect your own style. Shape yours and play with your friends? SIPs are pre-formed building elements that are assembled into structures on building sites. The panels consist of rigid insulating foam laminated ‘tween two sheets of Oriented Strand Board.

SIPs are engineered laminated panels with solid foam cores and structural sheathing on each side. The most common types of sheathing or skins materials are oriented strand board (OSB) and plywood. SIPS are basically a structural sandwich composed of two layers of OSB with insulating foam on the inside and can be used for cleanroom panels. The wood used for manufacturing OSB comes from fast growing trees that can be planted and harvested in just a few years.

SIPs are a revolutionary material that can help solve many of the new issues we face in designing and producing today’s built environment. Fresh thinking must come along with this new material. SIPs are used as floors, elevator cab design, walls and roofs on all types of building across North America and are shipped around the world for use on the widest variety of buildings thinkable. SIPs are most commonly used as exterior wall panels. Still, SIPs are also used as an entire building system, for creating vaulted or cathedral ceilings.

Antique Sewing Machine: Enjoy an Everchanging Heirloom

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 2:00 pm

Growing up, I often hear the buzz of my Grandmother’s antique sewing machine. Though it seemed extremely medieval, it was beautiful and pleasing. My grandmother pointed out that she acquired the sewing machine from her Aunt who taught her how to use the mechanism. Everyday, she always seemed to have sewing projects varying from pillows and curtains to attire. Sometimes, I would also see my mother give granny’s antique sewing machine a whirl. Mutually, they made several beautiful designs that I have always valued until this day.

When my parents passed away, I inherited almost everything including my loving grandmother’s beautiful old singer sewing machine. I was so stunned at how gorgeous it still appears. And the most amazing thing about it is that it works perfectly although slow. Thankfully, my mother had a knack for keeping things intact and maintained.

One day while I was browsing the internet, I came across a photo of the old sewing machines similar to the one I inherited from my grandmother. It turns out that I possess an antique sewing machine from Singer. The specific model that I have was named The Family or more famously known as The Turtleback. A uncommon piece, the Turtleback has been hunted by lots of antique collectors who are willing to pay huge amount for it. Because of my surprising discovery, I loved my antique sewing machine even more. Eventually I got hooked into finding more information about various antique sewing machines that made a mark in the textile industry as well as in the lives of millions of household. By then my interest for these beautiful machines increased and I started collecting earlier pieces of sewing machine as well.

Myriad flea markets, classified ads, and online auctions later, I have acquired several antique sewing machines that are truly an envy of most antique collectors. What’s so great about my acquirement’s are that they are mostly in perfect shape. Though some of them might require a bit of oil, my antique sewing machines appear beautiful.

After many years, here are some of my favorite antique sewing machine pieces:

1. White treadle sewing machine with cabinet – My first antique sewing machine purchase, I got it for $80 at a flea market. It was grimy, dirty and dusty. It was just used to support the door open. After a few hours of cleaning, it was a beauty with its hardwood cabinet, etchings and logo.

2. Singer 221 Featherweight – I got this baby from an online auction. Though, I paid almost $300 for it, it is definitely worth it. The 221 still has all its primary accessories and runs smoothly. It also has its original carrying case.

3. Gold Medal Improved Home Shuttle – This lovely decorated antique sewing machine is such a beauty that I can’t stop staring at it. It has a well maintained appearance with its shiny paint and bright colored decor.

I love my antique sewing machines. I’m still saving enough money to acquire another piece of beautiful history. I hope I find rarer antique sewing machine pieces that would bring reputation to my collection.

2009, 2010 Car & Vehicle Mileage Deductions

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 10:40 am

We are all familiar with the prices at the pump. That is why it is more important than ever to seek every deduction possible when calculating your driving expenses that relate to your work or business. It can be a time consuming process but tracking and deducting your driving expenses can prove to be a great deduction on your tax return.

This year you will be able to claim 50.5 cents for every mile driven for a business purpose. This is an increase from the previous 48.5 cents per mile.

You will need to have proof of your driving expenses. If you take the standard deduction you will need track miles and if you choose to deduct actual vehicle expenses then you will also need to track other items such as gas, repairs, insurance, and registration. It is very important to keep these receipts and documents organized so that you are not scrambling at the end of the year.

Here are some tips to maximize your car mileage deduction:

  • Learn what is allowable as a business mileage expense – The IRS offers publication 463 that gives you many examples to look over.
  •

  • Stay organized with receipts and tracking mileage – If you are audited this information is necessary and can save your deductions.
  •

  • Fill up when gas prices are lower – Since the deduction rate doesn’t change, this will help you maximize your deduction.
  •

  • Seek Assistance – This can be a lengthy process, we suggest using online tax preparation software such as TurboTax online.
  •

Please visit TurboTax Online with all of your IRS mileage deduction questions. TurboTax online offers free tax calculators and deduction maximizers to help you get the most deductions possible.

    Digital SLR Lenses

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 9:38 am

Digital lenses are without doubt one of the most important weapons in a photographer’s arsenal. They are also one of the most variable, coming in every conceivable weight, size and focal length, from the widest 10mm fish-eye to the longest 800mm telephoto lens. Whether your passion is to isolate fine architectural detail, or you are a landscape photographer looking to capture dramatic sunsets, there are many options for lenses, but they fall into four main categories.

    Standard

Standard lenses for full-frame digital SLR cameras fall between 40mm and 55mm, 50mm being the accepted norm. Standard lenses are closest to the normal field-of-view of the human eye, offering undistorted perspective. They are often used for portrait photography. Many digital SLRs need a shorter focal length than a 35mm camera or full-frame digital camera, due to their smaller APS-sized sensor, and these cameras will need a 35mm lens to get the same field-of-view as a 50mm lens on a full-frame.

    Wide-angle

Wide angle digital lenses are well suited to landscape and reportage photography, with their wider angle-of-view and shorter focal lengths than standard lenses. The need for shorter focal lengths to compensate for the APS sensor on many digital SLRs has led to an influx of new models. A typical digital wide-angle model might be 17-35mm, giving an equivalent field-of-view to 25-52mm on a full-frame SLR.

    Macro

If you’ve ever looked at a full-frame picture of a small subject such as an insect or petals and wondered how it was achieved, the answer is by using a macro lens. Macro lenses focus from as close as 2 inches and allow for a 1:1 life size reproduction. These lenses are specifically designed for close-up photography and are usually available in focal lengths from 50mm to 180mm.

    Telephoto

Any digital SLR lenses with a focal length above 50mm are designated as telephoto. Portrait photography is ideally suited to short telephoto lenses (70mm to 120mm) and longer focal lengths (135mm to 300mm and beyond) are excellent for wildlife and sports photography. On most digital SLRs, with smaller APS-sized sensors, the magnification of a lens is increased by approximately 1.5 times, making a 200mm digital lens equivalent to 300mm on a full-frame camera.

Pet Insurance Could Be A smart move As veterinary Costs Rise

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 11:27 am

In the United Kingdom 1 in 2 of every house has a pet, but less than 1 in 5 have taken out pet insurance to cover the vets costs. If you are one of the uninsured pet owners, If you own a guinea pig, chinchilla or rabbit you can purchase cover through Pet Protect. But if you own a somewhat more unusual pet,  Exotic Direct offers individually-priced insurance for animals ranging from spiders, snakes to vultures and Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs. In fact even the most unusual!

When taking out insurance for your pet, the cost will determined by the type of  pet, its age and pedigree, the level of cover, your address and the insurer. As a guide, pedigree breeds are usually more costly to insure than ordinary or heinz 57 variety animals. This is because predigrees are prone to illhealth and generally live shorter lives.

And if you live in a town or city you will probably pay more. Cover costs more in London and the south-east, where vets’ fees are above the national average Nevertheless. premiums can still be reasonable, realistic, starting a cost of 6 pounds a month for a dog and 4 pounds thirty five pence a month for a cat.

But be wary of ridiculously cheap premiums. The scale of cover vary extensively between policies and in the end you pay for what you get. So search around and carefully study the levels of cover offered before you splash out on a policy.

Veterinary costs are the most vital part of the cover.  So really you should purchase a policy that covers you for severalquite a few thousand pounds worth of veterinary expenses each year. The policy should include hospitalisation, surgery and treatment following illness or accident.
The owners of dogs should also look for plans which offer third-party liability cover. Some policies give 1 million pounds cover and some can go as high as 2 million. This covers injury or damage or damage your dog may inflict onpeople or property. Keep in mind that, you are legally liable if, say, your dog nips the  postman. As a cat owner you can rest easy, since you do not need third-party liability because you cannot be held responsible for your cats actions.
An insurance policy will not normally cover your pet during its first eight weeks of life, or when they get older. Most, but not all, polices refuse to accept dogs older than 8 or nine years and cats older than eleven. But if you are already covered when your pet gets to that age, your insurance company should continue to offer protection, although you can expect your premiums to increase significantly.

With most policies, you will have to pay an excess of about 50 pounds per claim. But with most plans this rises for elderley pets.

All pet plans will exclude any medical problem that already exists when you first take a policy out. But a few will also curb the payment of a continuing claim to 1 year. hence, if your pet requires lengthy treatment for diabetes, eczema or arthritis, for example, after the first year you will have to pay the bill fully yourself. There are many policies that will cover continuing claims, so keep an eye out for those but their premiums will be higher.

Do remember that it is important to keep your pets jabs up to date. Your insurance will not reimburse for an illness that could have been prevented by inoculation.

Well then is pet insurance worth it? We think so.We certainly think so. You may be one of the lucky ones and have a pet that stays fit and healthy up and till the end,end of its days but this is very unlikely. On a third of all plans the average is a claim each year. And the vets costs can run up thousands of pounds. You buy insurance to dodge the risk!|

Drop Shipping ECommerce Sites Can Be Started Quickly Without Hassle

Filed under: Misc — Author @ 8:00 pm

If you ask any internet businessperson about their biggest challenge when starting an e-business web site, they will usually tell you that getting the right product to feature was the most difficult problem. It is well-known that a lot of people are making terriffic incomes by offering stuff on the web, but where do they get the goods they sell, and how are they getting started?

Dropshipping services came on the scene many years ago even prior to the advent of the Internet. But since the web shopping revolution, drop shipping is bigger and more important than ever. Dropshipping allows you to sell merchandise, but you don’t really have to keep merchandise in stock yourself. You rely on a dropship supplier as a partner, who fulfills the orders for you.

The best way to find providers that dropship is to use drop ship product sources. There are many such services on the Internet, some reliable, some not so hot. So how do you find out the best service to use? Easy, just look to see that the company you are buying from is the actual maker or producer of the item. A drop ship source directory that sends you to a middleman that offers numerous products from different companies is generally a middleman. Stay away from these types of services, or you’ll be more for less.

Once you have located a drop ship source directory that puts you in contact with the real manufacturers of dropshipping merchandise that make or produce the products you wish to sell, then you can go forward and create relationships with those companies, without using a middleman. Drop shipping is a really good way to get started in e-commerce, just be sure you are dealing direct.
